Princess Yachts, British excellence
Founded in 1965 in Plymouth, Princess Yachts produces around 250 yachts annually from 35 to 130 feet. The V (sport cruisers), F (flybridge) and Y/X (motor yachts) ranges cover every profile, from family day-boat to blue-water superyacht.
Princess stands out for marine joinery quality, Pininfarina design signature on recent models, and a particularly dense Mediterranean service network (Cannes, Mallorca, Athens, Antibes).
Lead models on the pre-owned market
Princess V58/V65: highly demanded sport cruisers at 2-3 years of age, €850,000-1,600,000. Princess F55/F62: family flybridges, €1,100,000-2,200,000. Princess Y72/Y85: long-range motor yachts, €3,500,000-7,500,000.
The Princess pre-owned market is deep: 1,200+ annual European transactions. Well-tracked units (full service log, twin engines of the same cycle) hold 60-70% of value after 5 years.
Critical pre-purchase check points
Engine hours (a Princess F55 rarely exceeds 800h in private use over 5 years), exterior upholstery state (strong UV exposure in the Med), hydraulic gangway, IPS POD (on relevant models), gyro stabilisers where fitted.

5-year depreciation?+
About 30-40% on standard models, less on recent semi-custom Y-Class and M-Class. "Refit" status and central-agency history matter heavily.
Annual operating cost?+
8-12% of purchase price/year for private use: seasonal crew, marina, insurance, maintenance, cyclical refit. Higher with active charter.
Specific flag needed?+
Cayman, Malta or Marshall for 24 m+. Enables an optimised tax regime and international recognition. We refer to a maritime lawyer.
Princess or Sunseeker?+
Princess prioritises interior refinement and build quality; Sunseeker leans into design and sportiness. At equivalent budget, Princess depreciates less. Both have solid Mediterranean service.
Does the flag affect value?+
Yes. Red Ensign flags (UK, Cayman, Jersey) and Malta are appreciated at resale. French flag occasionally limits international buyers.
