Sell through a yacht broker

A broker is your exclusive seller-side representative: valuation, mandate, listing, negotiation, notary closing. Everything except moving the boat.

01

What a broker does

Valuation, mandate, listing, buyer qualification, viewings and survey, negotiation, MOA drafting, notary and flag-transfer coordination. Represents your interest.

02

Independent vs yard-tied

An independent broker has no stock to clear and no factory quota. Your interest comes first. That's our position.

03

MYBA standard

MYBA members follow a code (commission transparency, standardised MOA, third-party escrow). Always check a broker's MYBA affiliation.

The role of a real yacht broker

A yacht broker isn't a maritime estate agent. The value rests on three things: a network of qualified buyers (often off-market), technical expertise to time the right price, and legal-tax orchestration of the transfer (MYBA, flag, VAT, escrow).

MYBA-standard member and independent, we represent only one side at a time — seller OR buyer — to avoid any conflict of interest. Most large transactions happen between two brokers (split commission), a hallmark of transparency.

Exclusive vs open mandate

Exclusive mandate (single broker) statistically outperforms: average sale price 7-12% higher, time-to-sale 30-40% shorter. The broker invests in marketing (photo, aerial video, print brochure) and defends your yacht against other listed units.

Open mandate (multiple brokers) dilutes effort and signals an over-listed yacht to the market — therefore one to negotiate hard on. We rarely accept it, never on units above €1M.

Marketing: what works in 2025

Professional dockside and at-sea photography (€3,000-5,000). 90-second drone video for social and YachtWorld listing (€4,000-7,000). Listing on YachtWorld, The Yacht Market, YachtBroker, and 30+ international broker inventories. Targeted distribution on LinkedIn and Instagram via specialised accounts.

For units above €3M, we add off-market presentation to a private network of approximately 200 qualified international buyers.

« Five years of relationship, two sales and one purchase. Martin is the only Mediterranean independent broker in whom I have never detected a single trick. »

FAQ

Broker cost?+

Standard 10% commission on sale, paid at signing. Split when two brokers (seller + buyer). No upfront fees, no mandate fees.

How many brokers?+

One, on exclusive central agency. Multi-mandate dilutes price and sends a negative market signal.

What documents are needed?+

Title of ownership, flag certificate, register, recent maintenance invoices, builder manuals, equipment inventory. We assemble the file.

How to verify a serious broker?+

MYBA affiliation, track record, verifiable client references, commission transparency, no "admin fees" being charged.

How long does a mandate last?+

MYBA standard: 6 months renewable. We avoid shorter mandates — initial marketing needs 30-45 days to start producing results.

Who pays survey and legal fees?+

Buyer pays the survey (€5,000-15,000) and their legal counsel. Seller bears presentation costs (photo, video). Broker commission is owed by the seller at signing.

Do you work with foreign brokers?+

Yes systematically. Most buyers of yachts above €1M are international. We co-broker with Edmiston, Camper & Nicholsons, Burgess and reputable independents.
